AMPLIFY Breaks Records for Most Diverse Female Founders

Girls in Tech Global is thrilled to announce the finalists who will be competing at the sixth annual AMPLIFY Startup Pitch Competition, exclusively for female founded teams! This year’s finalists, which were selected from more than 362 applicants from 46 countries — a record for the competition — range from hardware to mobile apps. One thing is clear, tech for good is on the minds of many women founders.

Happening for a half-day in San Francisco on Wednesday, October, 3rd, the top 10 finalists will take the stage to compete for $20,000 in seed funding and over $30,000 in software services, laptops, and office space for a year. Putting it all on the line to a panel of Silicon Valley VCs, serial entrepreneurs, and industry veterans, AMPLIFY showcases the real innovation that happens when grit and hard work combine how a woman entrepreneur in tech at their best.

Project Vive

“Millions of people with disabilities, such as cerebral palsy and ALS, cannot speak. Many lack access to assistive technology because of high cost, lack of training and limited control sensor options. Project Vive has created the Voz Box system, an affordable, smart, speech generating device (SGD) that addresses the unmet need for every voice to be heard. OmniVis

“The ebola outbreak was a public health crisis due to the inefficiencies with rapid diagnosis of the disease. Patient samples took 3 days to diagnose in advanced laboratory settings. At OmniVis, we designed a device that sits around a smartphone to take a 3 day process down to 30 minutes, and requires no prior scientific knowledge to operate.

We have a hardware device and consumable test kit (razor/razor-blade model) attaches to a smartphone that is accurate and affordable. Additionally, OmniVis’ smartphone application performs data gathering and reporting tools provide insights over disease hotspots; enabling earlier warning before wide-scale outbreaks occur. This empowers communities by having accessible tools for disease detection and enables governments and aid organizations to funnel healthcare resources to outbreak hotspots. We will initially sell our device for water-based testing of cholera.

JustFix.nyc

“JustFix.nyc is a technology non profit that builds data driven tools for tenants and organizers fighting displacement. Our platform is comprised of two complementary tools: 1) A mobile app that assists tenants in gathering evidence, mediating with their landlord through templated communications, reporting violations to city agencies, connecting with organizers and attorneys, and presenting a ‘case history’ in housing court. 2) A dashboard that integrates with the tenant app to allow community organizers, legal aid attorneys, and other advocates to communicate with tenants and build group cases. GlamTech Corporation

“GlamTech is an enterprise software company that provides Dermatology-grade artificial intelligence and augmented reality digital skincare capabilities to beauty brands and retailers, enabling them to enhance the online shopping experience for their users. DACA Time

“We make the immigration process easier with software. Few people know this, but the majority of immigration applications are still done with pen and paper in the U.S. We started to make this process easier, cheaper, and faster. Our primary users are immigrants and immigration attorneys. PayBee Inc.

“PayBee is a platform for nonprofits to increase their donations by tapping into the moment of inspiration. We are a plug and play technology that powers mobile and web donations, as well as physical items like donation boxes, flyers, and posters.” – Nidhi Doshi, Co-Founder, Linkedin

BLITAB

“BLITAB is the world’s first tactile tablet for the blind and visually impaired, using a disruptive technology developed by our company, to create tactile text and graphics in real time.Our invention is the ‘smart tactile technology’ for the screen. First-time users can learn, work and play with one mobile device, have digital access to information. Pre-BLITAB blind users don’t have equal access to digital content. Now BLITAB is functional, it converts any document into Braille text; little smart dots (“tixels”) raise immediately from the surface and can be read. Moreover, it can represent interactive images like Google Maps or brain structure for biology classes. This content is currently excluded from textbooks for blind children. Klasha

Klasha is an online fast fashion retailer for 20-somethings in emerging markets. We sell affordable fast fashion to millennial consumers with fast shipping and offer payments in local African currencies. Traditional online retailers do not ship to Africa in a timely manner (e.g. 1-5 days), they also don’t offer payments in local African currencies which we do.

Much of the western world are ignoring the prospects of the opportunity on the continent of Africa with e-commerce being a nascent industry. “WorkAround is an impact sourcing provider helping companies get more done for less while creating jobs for talented refugees. WorkAround is providing displaced people with the opportunity to work online from anywhere by connecting them with companies in need of human intelligence tasks such as tagging, data entry, data scrubbing and research. WorkAround matches the tasks with skilled and vetted refugee workers that complete these tasks quickly, accurately, and for less than hiring additional US based workers. WorkAround guarantees workers a fair wage based on their current country of residence. WishYourPrice Inc.

“WishYourPrice is enabling retailers to get into the minds of their shoppers by understanding their willingness to pay, purchase intent and latent demand. Our patent pending AI driven platform takes into consideration a series of factors like social influence, sales velocity, margins, inventory level etc. to give an instant confirmation to a shopper’s wish price. Shopper’s have a say in what they pay and retailers don’t lose out on potential revenue due to flat pricing/discounting.
