Ten years ago, I was eager to join the tech industry when I made my way to Silicon Valley. The only problem was everyday, I’d go to work and be the only woman. Besides feeling isolated, I know that without the female perspective, without 50% of the population’s voice, the entire technology industry would never reach it’s full potential. I knew something needed to change.
So, I founded Girls in Tech in 2007 to help women advance their careers in STEM fields. Today, GIT aims to accelerate the growth of innovative women entering the high-tech industry and empower them to build startups. We’re here to help #StartHerSuccess. With 60,000 members and local volunteer led chapters in 60 countries, we’ve come a long way.
Now, we’re asking for your help. We’re calling on women around the world to dig deep and use the creativity and passion that’s brought you this far to start a personal fundraiser for Girls in Tech.
Run a marathon. Have a birthday party. Host a cooking class. Share your passion for girls and women in tech. Whatever you’re into, you can create a #StartHerSuccess fundraising page to celebrate it— enabling girls and women around the world to pursue their dreams to build and create while you pursue yours.
Now, more than ever, we need to come together to help girls and women make their way in tech. Founding GIT and showing up everyday to ensure women like you have an equal voice and presence in tech has been my life’s passion. I hope you’ll dig deep and share something you’re passionate about to raise funds to empower girls and women, too.
